I'm German Villegas from Edmonton, Alberta. I've been exploring masculinity and gender since 2015 through a variety of ways, notably through my podcast Modern Manhood and work with organizations like Men Edmonton, Alberta Men's Network, and Next Gen Men (where I'm currently a board member). My work has appeared in various publications and the documentary "Boys will be Themselves."

I used to be a blogger back in the day before social media took over our lives. I wrote a lot, and I love to write. One of my artistic outputs was through doing Modern Manhood, however I found that I have things to say that a podcast would not be the right medium to do so. I love this age of newsletters because it’s exciting to allow me to say things in a way that’s quick and simple. I also love to write in general.

I would hope this newsletter, named after Ferdinand The Bull, the bull that wanted to smell the roses instead of fight. I think it’s a great encapsulation of the push and pull of masculinity and society at large.

This free newsletter shares my thoughts between podcast seasons, covering:

  • Media

  • Gender and men's culture

  • Interesting news

  • Podcasts (especially Modern Manhood)

Updates will arrive in your inbox and can also be accessed on the website. If you enjoy it, please share with friends!
